He might want revenge for being left behind to what he thought of as an escape to safety from The Wither, and since the player is the only one left that even remotely looks like his people, he decided to take revenge in him, explaining his hauntings and his place in the game. I’m not sure if this is right or not but it’s just a thought in my head.
